Fckeditor
The fckeditor is really good editor.That editor comes from a mature project called http://ckeditor.com/.As a developer i used that editor also on non wordpress like java web applications.the most stable and mature wordpress plugin for ckeditor is the “Dean’s FCKEditor for WordPress plugin”.The list of features it has is quite nice and long.There are however a major drawback once should consider using it on wordpress.it escapes all “security risk” chars –i.e : the >,<,’,”,…
So, if you want to use a short code in your post that look like :[myshortcode id=“2”], that wont work.frustrating.So,to workaround it, you can deactivate it, add the short code, activate the plugin again and than it will work.
Tinymce Advanced
The built-in editor is based on tinymce.So, One effect was made that there are more wordpress plugins that support extending it, than the fckeditor.

From the four of them i would recommaad the second one :TinyMCE Advanced.the reason is that i used it alot of times and i havnt found any faults that made me work hard like in fckeditor.one good button is the “copy from word” button, which removes all the stupid microsoft css code when you paste from word dcoument.
So, in a race the tinymce wins against the fckeditor.
