Office Politics-Beware of Free launch

The situation now days seem to be very volatile. Empire companies fall and the ones that survive are the ones that kept some money and didn’t spend it.
It seems however, that manager likes to play on that issue. There is a good chance find yourself in a company meeting where all employees were invited to the “monthly meeting “which was never monthly.
You can feel in the air that something is wrong, and the look of your fellow comrades approve your feeling. Yes, you are going to earn less when this meeting ends.
There are two kinds of managers: the smart ones and the dumb. either way you are going to lose money, but lets describe the differences between these two, just to list the indicators hat are preliminary to the “surprising” (or not) announcement that they cut your salary.
So, the dumb ones might not gather a meeting at all. You will hear from other employees, which heard that from others. And you won’t believe it until the pay check comes.
The smart ones are masters in “office-politics”. They are not “the boss” by accident. It toke them years to reach their position and they had their share in office politics games. They are players in office survivors after all.
So, what a smart boss do when he wants to deliver bad news-bad for you, not for him-trust me, he earn more so cutting the same percentage from both of you wont effect him at all-you on the other hand fell it hard. And its hurt.
Again, what he do– well if you didn’t guess so far-(you might train yourself in the office politics games more)-he bring you all, to a big happy lunch. All lunch expenses are on the company. He smiles to everybody, make jokes, and say good things on everybody-an office survivor rule set. This situation doesn’t give you a lot — so you need to eat. At least you can order some expensive meal-after all, it on the company expenses.
After everybody finished eating-then the boss brings you the bad news. Something like:
The board decided to cut 10% from each employee due to the recession in the world, low number of sales.….
See, he blames the board for this decision. He was against it all along but alas– he can’t do much when the board tells him, Right? He is on contract like all of you. You are all in the same problem. His 10% is yours 10%.Basically he implies you are all equal.
To sweet the sour pill he suggest this is only temporally state. If there will be more sales in the next-lets say 6 months. Then all of us will get back the money we just lost. In addition, everyone is required to add an extra minimal time of 1 hour –that mean they just increased you time at the office, by decreasing the money you get back. Perfect, and about getting back after six months. Usually they will reach it and either says we didn’t sell much. We need to keep this state 6 months more-Or they will tell you its very hard to calculate whether we reach our goal and it takes 6 months to know it. .sophisticated office politics games – they are using excuses like the employees can’t tell between junk and true.
Now, if you think about, this is a very problematic issue. When you first got hired, you had a negotiation on the hourly/monthly/yearly salary. The amount is kept secret between you two .in addition, you don’t “know” what your friends in the office earns also,-they might get more or less. This is the capitalist way right?
But when it comes to cut down, they act like communist society-we are all alike-so let’s cut 10% to everybody-no matter how much he gains in the beginning. THIS is not capitalist way!
So, you get the news on full stomach, and you feel less angry. That’s exactly what your boss intends. Good job Boss– you proved you know how to be a master mind in office politics.
Before we conclude, pay attention to the office environment in the next few months. You will see , surprisingly arrival of new employees (from which money– they just cut and cry that they don’t have– oh yours)., you stay more at work because there are more projects to handle-more project mean more customers mean more money right?
What else need to be done? You go home, think about it. Talk to your relatives-it’s very important to tell them that because it affects them also. And you start planning your actions.
